At Selamta, our children are part of a large, loving extended family - they invite you to become part of their family, too. As a Selamta Sponsor, you will encounter a powerful generosity of spirit and come to understand that you can make a significant impact in the life of a child or sibling group in great need.

Unique to Selamta, our Sponsors have the opportunity to create lasting emotional bonds with their sponsored child or sibling group, and establish true, familial relationships. Through letters, photographs, emails and even travel to Selamta, our sponsors have the opportunity to engage in the lives of their special child or sibling group, and see him/her grow into a happy, healthy and well-adjusted adolescent and young adult.

So many of our Sponsors have traveled to Selamta; they volunteer and visit their child’s small family home, sharing love and laughter with Mom, Auntie and all the siblings. As volunteers, they offer tutorial help on hard-to-master school subjects and kick the soccer ball around (breathlessly) with our young athletes.

In all societies, meaningful change starts within the context of loving family and caring community. Whether sending a note from home to encourage good study skills, or attending graduation at the Alpha School, a Selamta Sponsor is an agent of change for a society torn apart by HIV/AIDS, poverty and other diseases.

The rewards are bountiful. You will receive letters, photographs and drawings from your sponsored child as they share their dreams, hopes and joys with you and your family. Overtime, you will have the joy and pleasure of seeing your child grow, thrive and blossom into a self-confident adolescent and young adult.

Help our next generation here at home take up the problem of global poverty.  With examples of committed and compassionate mentors, our American youth and adolescents can muster their idealism and energy to help our children at Selamta transition from abject poverty and despair to new hope for a bright future.  As our American youth comes to understand that we are all connected, they will strive to make the world a better place.
